FRAGMENTS OF PAPER

IN THE TREES

I am the dreams of my existence

locking the door open for you

dancing past the graveyard

and singing across your lap

where two o’clock begins again

and the branches start to snap

offering kisses on your forehead

from the first rain

where the blinds

are caught in rays of light

across the decades of our eyes

a repeat performance

letting the brain off the leash

in a room by myself

shattered by visions of hope

like an eyeful of cacti

and pieces of beach on my breath.

Always take the chance

someone will read your unique

misunderstanding of it all

and learn to dance

and rub against your sky because

whenever a flower blossoms

in an unlikely place

you have a poem.
